1.1 Provide a text equivalent for every non-text element
Checkpoint:
1.1 Provide a text equivalent for every non-text element (e.g. via "alt", "longdesc", or in element content).
A main tenet of this guideline is the provision of text equivalents for non-text content (e.g., images, pre-recorded audio, video). Text equivalents can make information accessible to people from various disability groups using a variety of technologies. Text equivalents can also make information available to people who surf with graphics turned off (perhaps due to a slow internet connection) or people with a visual impairment who use a text only browser and a screen reader.
