Making pages usable when programmatic objects are turned off

Information and navigation provided via a scripting language or applet must still be available when the scripting language or applet is not supported.

For example,

  • Important content may be provided via 'rollover images', i.e. information is made visible when a user moves the mouse pointer over an image. This information should be made available in an alternative way when scripting is not supported or it is turned off.
  • Content provided via Flash, or PDF documents - alternative accessible should be provided.
  • Avoid creating content 'on-the-fly' locally if that content is no longer available when scripting is disabled or not supported, i.e. dynamic navigation menus which are dependent on the use of Javascript.
